What’s the goal of our recreational programs?
Have fun!
Get sweaty!
Enrich life in a positive, safe environment
Leave feeling good about yourself
Learn the basics of the sport!
What age group should I sign up for? In order to provide a developmentally appropriate experience, our classes are divided by age. Athletes will be grouped within each class based on their abilities.
My child is 4. Can they be in the 5 - 8 year old class? Our rule is that children must be at least TURNING the appropriate age during the session. Example: The session is Sept 9 - Oct. 31. My 4 year old turns 5 on Oct. 17th. So this means they could sign up for the 5 - 8 year old class if they like. We recommend this on the high age end too. If the class is for 5 - 8 year olds, we recommend signing your child that is turning 9 up for the 8 - 12 year old class. Reach out with clarifications, we are happy to help!
My child is 5. Should they be in the 3 - 5 or 5 - 8 age group? This is a borderline age group situation. We firmly believe parents know best! We have overlap in ages because we know each child is different! Choose a group that aligns with your child's individual maturity. We coach based on abilities, not age!
What should I wear? Wear something comfortable. A leotard or tight fitting shirt and shorts works great. No zippers, buttons, jeans or loose fitting clothing. No socks! For safety reasons, hair needs to be pulled away from the face securely. We do have leotards available for purchase in our lobby.
What should I bring to gymnastics? A water bottle with your name on it! Don’t bring any valuables and try to minimize personal belongings that will need to be stored while you participate.
I have never done gymnastics. Where do I start? Here! You are in the right place in our recreational programs. Coaches are trained to work with all abilities and they will make sure you are in a group that is appropriate based on your ability. In addition to strategic grouping, coaches will often offer a variety of ways to complete a task for beginners, intermediate and more advanced participants.
I have done gymnastics in the past. Which class should I sign up for? We require that all children (except previous Xcel team members) re-enter the sport into our recreational program. This is the best program for a majority of children who want to be involved in gymnastics! Transferring from another program? Cool! Unless you have competed in another club, start with our rec programs and we'll adjust from there as needed to keep everyone challeneged and safe!
I have mastered the basics. I love gymnastics and I am ready for more. What’s next? If you are a female and demonstrate a mastery of the basics, BGC staff may consider you for placement within one of our pre-team or team training programs. These placements are determined at the end of each session. The pre-team and team training programs require a 11 - 12 months commitment and participation in these programs is by invitation only. Questions? Email: balancegymnasticscenter@gmail.com.
Can I make up for missed classes? No refunds or make-up classes are permitted.
Can parents and caregivers stay and watch? They can, but if your child is potty trained and doesn’t need a parent to be present for medical or other reasons, please consider dropping off rather than hanging out. This helps us conserve space for those who have legitimate reasons for needing to be with their child. If your child isn’t potty trained, stick around.
The session or camp started. Can I still join? If we have openings, you can join! Our online registration system will prorate your fees for the late start accordingly.
Will I get charged if I add my name to a wait list? Nope! No payments are processed until you are actually enrolled in the class or camp. Our system requires credit/debit cards on file for all customers for ease of future transactions.
Can you save my spot in a class or camp? No, all enrollments are on a first come, first served basis and payment is required upon enrollment. Credit cards may take up to 5 days to fully process.
Class didn’t work out for us. Can I get a refund? We offer all families an option of a refund within 24 hours of your first class at BGC. Unfortunately we cannot offer refunds beyond this window. Thank you for understanding!
